What is software testing?

The application can also indicate when an application might stop working and why, such as when a certain threshold is reached or exceeded, such as a large number of simultaneous users.

  • Saves money. A lack of software testing can lead to unnoticed software development issues that can be very costly to organizations in the future. Since software patching is generally more expensive than testing during development, tracing and resolving issues after the application launches can be more challenging.

Types of software testing

Tests for software can be dynamic or static, and there are many types of testing. In dynamic testing, the program's code and documentation are examined while the program is being executed; in static testing, the program's code is examined. Software testing methodologies can be divided into the following types:

  • Performance testing. A given workload is used to test an application's performance and speed.

  • Regression testing. New feature addition is tested to see if the functionality of the application declines.

  • Stress testing. During this test, the software is assessed based on its capacity to handle a certain load before it breaks. A nonfunctional test such as this is performed.
